The church of the Archangel Michael

The church of the Archangel Michael

The church of the Archangel Michael is the most unusual among all churches in Vladimir. The history of the Archangel Michael church began in the 1880-ies from the petition of M. Leontiev, the leader of the provincial nobility (who was also a descendant of the eminent commander A. V. Suvorov on the maternal line) to erect the church for the residents of the nearby area and for the children enrolled in the craft-competent school. M. Leontiev became the chairman of the building committee. The construction started on October 13, 1891. Retired captain F. G. Arkhangelskiy chose the place to erect the building and has allocated money for the construction of the church. In 1929 the church was closed. The interior, a mirrored cross, the bell tower were lost.

In 1985 the museum exposition "Clock and time" was opened in the church building by the Vladimir-Suzdal Museum-Reserve. A new history of the church began in 1997. On the 19-th of April this year the church was consecrated. The church was named in honor of the heavenly leader Archangel Michael who is the Saint patron of the Russian warriors.
